The Bellusaurus sui is the only known species of the fossil genus Bellusaurus who lived in the middle of the Jurassic period, approximately 170 million years ago, in what is now Asia.

All Bellusaurus specimens are juveniles and were found in a bed of bones in the Shishugou Formation, Sichuan Province, China

The skulls found of the Bellusaurus were small and their bones very light. Findings of these sauropods are rare, but a complete skull does exist that shows it had a deep head.

Its teeth were spoon-shaped, and the height of its neck was slightly longer than its body, while the height of the skull was moderate.

There is the possibility that, since all the Bellusaurus finds are from young specimens, that is why their small size, and that they grew when they became adults.
